RED HERRING CENTRAL

Red Herring Central
So, since we were asked to communicate: How about we have a thread that is called "RED HERRING CENTRAL", on this thread, we can use it to post a clue--or an obvious plant (red-herring) or an interesting quote -not naming the speaker that has been said.

Quote: "I took a chance and narrowed my quiz answers down to three people, including you...the fact that I am still standing proves I am on the right track. If you can convince me that you are not The Mole, I will be down to two, one will be right. Convince me, and I'll share. Or, don't and you might be helping as well..."

Re: Red Herring Central
Here's something suspicious no one ever asked my about - getting 0 in the refresh game. After the game was over EQ whispered to me "did you really mean to get 0?". I answered emphatically "NO!" and said I would put down what happened in my journal. Here is what I wrote -
--------------------
Well, here's my explanation of what I did in refresh revenge:
I went to the game thread and into the link marked "Andy". It said, as I remember, "For each refresh of this page you make, 1 penny will be added... the only way to make sure you are doing it is to see your counter increment..."
I noticed a counter to the right, which was roughly at 120 or so, and a counter at the bottom left which was at 0 or 1 - can't remember. I hit the refresh button - the right counter went to 127, the bottom counter incremented by one. I quick clicked the refresh 3 times, my lower counter went up by 3.
I ran the lower counter up to a perfect 400, and stopped for a bit. The right counter was at about 1200 or so. In the next minute or so I slowly clicked the refresh. After I got to 417 or so the page said "thanks for playing, return to chat room".
I may have done something wrong (not played right?), but seeing both counters go up made me think I was on to something. If I was able to go in and read the page, why didn't I at least score 1?
--------------------
I honestly don't know what I did wrong, but I assume I did not play it correctly. There are the 124 mystery points I could take credit for, but thats no where near what I thought I made...

Re: Red Herring Central
My mistake here Andy, after I figured out what was wrong, I thought I had posted it under the challenge.

Your counter and Ryan's counter were on the same counting system for some odd reason (i.e. i messed up when I was assigning them) So your total was part of Ryan's. Hence his oversized number, and your undersized number.

Sorry if that is only now getting clarified.

OH, and the extra 124 are just ones that couldn't be accounted for because of the layout of the Total counter being first, so it would register, even if your secondary counter didn't register. So there were 124 extra because someone was clicking to fast. Instead of only giving you what was on your individual counters. I Felt like being nice for an evening, and gave you the total.

Sorry Gods, I tried. These guys are just too tight lipped to have any fun with this thread. I could egg them on by saying, "They lack imagination"....."Lazy".....or that "they might be so lost that they can't tell a red-herring from the real deal"...but they will not bite...I suppose one of those reasons listed applies each -- If that last comment doesn't get them talking, nothing will-- I tried, sorry :-(

Re: Red Herring Central
Here is a good quote for you, Vickie.

"Don't you find it funny that Andy said of the 3 choices, "I think we have one correct piece and we are missing 2 forgeries" or something along those lines, since it happened to be true?"

Re: Red Herring Central
It was actually "we have one INcorrect and are missing 2"...
The one I thought we had incorrect was the one Max did. (I did vote NO when asked if I thought it was a forgery or not).
And he practically told us there were 4 forgeries (when he told us Madam wasn't able to find them and she knew how many to look for)

Re: Red Herring Central
WEll Andy on the refresh game... I thought 0 too and how do you get zero... I guess the big myster has been solved on Ryan's 500 refreshes...

Re: Red Herring Central
Since the Refresh Revenge game has been mentioned and I chalked up what was it 3 how hopelessly embarrassing..I have little to offer, as I honestly do not know what went wrong...The counter wouldn't change---I kept refreshing and screen would stick and then I would freeze up (my pc) was like getting ready to time out---get dumped---it was the most stressful few minutes of the game other than executions. I was thinking that it was a Spottalk glitch and that maybe I was not alone...looking at Ryans---maybe he managed to clog up the cyber world...whatever the case...I was very red-faced sitting here with just 3 till I saw Andy actually beat me in the catagory!

Re: Red Herring Central
Vickie,

To be honest, I did not find it odd that you did not do well in the Refresh game. I know that sounds mean, so let me explain...you had mentioned previously that you were working with a dial up and it was sometimes "cranky" so I just chalked it up to that. I was much more suspicious of Andy's 0 and Ryan's 574,000 (or something like that. ) Anyway, looks like that has been put to rest.

I liked the quote you posted at the beginning of this thread. Did you bite or do you think the person was just "playing" you? Tell more...

Mark :)

Re: Red Herring Central
Thanks Mark for understanding the RR challenge---as for the thread earlier---I did not bite!
