Brushes with fame
Like Jaron, I too felt a need to test the New Topic button. So who is the most famous (or last, or most memorable) person you have ever spoken to or just seen out and about?

While I can count John Wayne and President Nixon on my famous list, the last celebrity I actually spoke to was John Lithgow (from 3rd Rock). He was outside a theater in NY signing autographs. I ran up and knelt before him, gushed out a "Lord Farquaad!" (a Shrek reference for those of you without kids), and held my ticket up for him to sign. He graciously signed it say "Oh, thank you, that was very sweet", smiling the whole time. Then he got an evil look on his face and yelled "Now, go away peasant!" in a Lord Farquaad voice (joking of coarse). Everyone there laughed, and I felt I had a theatrical moment with one of my favorite performers.

Re: Brushes with fame
I can't really say I've met anyone famous. I shook hands and briefly talked to Governor Pataki (of NY) a few years ago, if that counts :) .

I know some people here like football, I know there's at least one die hard Steelers fan...so hopefully they will appreciate this.

I was buying a suit from the "Big and Tall Shop" one day last year when my sister and I spotted a man that looked really familiar. Excitedly, she whispers, "do you know who that is?" My reply: "Yeah, it's Tom Sellick" (said rather loudly). All of a sudden the man started cracking up, and he introduced himself to us..."Hi, I'm Mark Malone!" For those of you who don't know, he was a Steelers QB in the 1980s and he is a host of NFL Today now.

Are we talking hair, air, or tooth?

Oh, ok. I get it. Famous people.

1) On a flight to Minneapolis when I was in college, I sat right behind Spanky from "Our Gang".

2) I walked right next to Nathan Lane while crossing a street in NYC, and didn't even know it until my friend told me.

3) I was in a record store in L.A. when George Wendt from Cheers walked in. My friend ruined it when she yelled out "Norm!" and the poor guy turned and left immediately.

4) My greatest brush was meeting Barry Goldwater (some people don't know he ran for President against Johnson in '64). His former housekeeper's daughter interviewed him for a school project, and she asked me to film it. He was very kind, and evne gave us a personal tour of his home. It was even more special, because the following year, he died.

Only one I can think of...I was waitressing during high school at a Banquet Restaurant and I served dinner to President (well Vice President at the time ) George W. Bush. It was crazy there with all the secret service people in the kitchen with bomb sniffing dogs & you had to pass a background check to be anywhere inside the building. Quite an experience!

Re: Brushes with fame
OK, this is nothing great, but I did bump into Ted Kennedy (LITERALLY-walked into him) in Bostons' Quincy Market a few years back. I was looking somewhere else at the time, and after I slamed into him I looked him in the eye and said "Excuse me", it didn't register until a minute after, when my Dad said "Do you know who that was?" Then it hit me...

I have done some spots on television for our local SPCA also, so have met many local TV personalities.

I met Sally Starr, who was the host of "Popeye Theatre" a Philadelphia based, childrens show, many years ago.

My step-sisters' dog had puppies sired by Wayne Gretzkys' Lab, so I am related by dog-marriage to him.

My cousin (my grandmothers', brothers, son) is Nathan Lane--voice of many animated Disney characters and Snowbell the cat in Stuart Little, Movie actor, Broadway star, and also Tony Award receiver/presenter/host.

Re: Brushes with fame
Hmmm... let's see,

About a year or so ago I was bowling late at night with a group of friends at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. It was rather late at night on a Friday or Saturday and to put it mildly we were all laughing and being stupid way more than we were actually bowling when I looked up to see a group of people walking by. To my surprise, one of the people in the group was Drew Carey. To say it was a brush with fame is not entirely accurate since I never got to speak with him, but several us called as his name as he hurried by (to go get security, no doubt!)

Right after my first couple of years in college, I went to work for a major airline as a Flight Attendant (something I am glad to not be doing know, I might add!) On a short flight from Dallas/Ft Worth to San Antonio, TX, I was able to meet Joan Jett. I was never a major fan, but she was one of the sweetest people you could ever want to meet. She and her entourage took up several rows and as I recall she had her hair dyed red (no, not red like mine....red like a fire engine, LOL.)

To those of you who are country music fans (I am not a huge fan to be honest) I grew up in the same small town in east Texas as Lee Ann Womack. Her parents were both teachers and worked at the same school as my parents. I met her a couple of times growing up (but that was before she became famous).

And the last one I can think of was when I was sitting (on the floor as I recall) in the San Francisco airport waiting for the lovely fog to lift when Paul McCrane (Dr. Rocket Romano on ER) walked by. Again, I was with friends and we had nothing better to do so we proceeded to call out "Hey, Rocket...Rocket Romano!) The man just kept a walkin. He must not have known who I was or I am sure he would have said hello :D Ah well, his loss.
