COMMUNICATIONS CALCULATIONS; the 2nd game
THE CLUE: Any of the various numbers that were on the page, including a very special number we'll mention a little bit later..

THE GAME: The players were given a link and told "That was it!"

The problem was that players charged off to the link without much discussion at all. The instructions essentially asked them to enter the answers to the "puzzler" questions into the calculator. Wrong guesses instituted a click on the counter as it started them back at the beginning page. The players started at $3.50 for the pot and 10 cents was to be deducted for each click over 14 (the number of starting players who had to enter on that page initially.) A bonus of $1.50 was to be given if ALL 14 PLAYERS posted the final answer to their journals before a set deadline.

There was also a note that an exemption was available in this game.

The solutions:

3. There is no question here, it is the 1 from eleven in the previous question (I bet you folks who just clicked anything were confused with this one)

4.How many Cyber - Mole players have served in the military?
Answer: 3
Solution: Andy, Rocky and Vickie

5.Subtract the number of children that Phil(0), Ryan(0), Jim(0), Lisa(1), Mark(0), Rocky(1) and Andy(2) have from the number of children that Jackie(3), Jaron(0), Jenna(0), Max(2), Karen(3), Alec(0) and Vickie(0) have.
Answer: 4
Solution: 8 - 4 = 4

6.Three men are buried in the sand all facing forwards with their heads above ground. Each man has a hat placed on his head selected from a bag containing 3 red hats, and 2 black hats. The men cannot turn around to see the men behind them. The man at the back is asked what hat he is wearing. He replies 'I do not know'. The middle man is asked what hat he is wearing. He also replies 'I do not know'. The man at the front is then asked what hat he is wearing. The man in the front declares the color of his hat correctly. Enter 3 if his hat is Black and Enter 5 if his hat is Red.
Answer: 5/red
Solution:The man in the back does not know what hat he has on. This means that the two men he can see could not both have black hats on, or he would know he had a red hat on. The middle man does not know what hat he has on because he knows the same fact, that he and the last man do not both have black hats on. He must see a red hat in front of him, because he if saw a black hat, then he would know his hat was red, since both hats are not black. The last man knows that his hat is not black, because the middle man would have known his hat was red. So if it's not black, then it is red.

7.In Jesters music collection he has songs which last 6, 7, 8 and 9 minutes. A song he has by Skid Row lasts 8 minutes and the CD song lasts longer than the song by Genesis. The song on DAT tape is longer than the song by Toad the Wet Sprocket. The single lasts for 7 minutes and the album does not contain any Genesis. The song by Eve 6 is on the DAT tape. How long is the song by Genesis?
Answer: 7
Solution:
Toad the Wet Sprocket is on the album and lasts 6 minutes.
Genesis is on the single and lasts 7 minutes.
Skid Row is on CD and lasts 8 minutes.
Eve 6 is on DAT tape and lasts 9 minutes.

The final solution of which was 8113457

Needless to say the number of hits went well over 14 and the $3.50 dwindled to $0 very quickly.. There are a number of factors that contributed to that, some on our end, some on their end. In either case, the money was lost before they even really began. The only hope at that point was to see if all the players found the correct solution.

So what about that "exemption" icon on the last page? And what were they supposed to do with that number?

Your first key was at the top of the page. The title bar placed a hyphen between some of the numbers.

AHA!! A phone number... but what area code do they dial? That clue was in the room itself all along. And the placement of the calculator was the key to that solution.

In Green you can see the 1877

In blue it's worded to make you think that they weren't completely done with the puzzle.

In red, the journal links did not close the page to also suggest there might be something more.

Also, if they noticed the border along the bottom, it has a bunch of 7s, and the only difference is the 8, which is below the other 8, and suggests 877 once again.

So now they had all the information they needed. Pick up the phone (did you see the phone pads in the background?) and dial 1-877-811-3457

When they called, they got the following message...

"Click here for the Cyber Mole greeting"
